This year’s troop leadership conference was amazing and “magical” for a few different reasons and the growth within the troop, not necessarily size wise, but in leadership is a sight to see.  To begin with, we had the honor of hosting a newly crossed over troop so that they could learn about the different roles and the accompanying responsibilities that they will need to have as they move through the ranks of scouting as well as planning their yearly activities to help ensure their troop’s success and they also got to see firsthand our scouts who were their age just a few years ago are now in leading roles because of their hard work and dedication.  With that said, this weekend was not all work and as is usual with our troop, we try to add a healthy mix of over-the-top fun regardless of where we are and there were games (how easy do you think it is to put up a tent blindfolded?  It is not easy, I promise you) a Harry Potter themed dinner (yes, we had capes, cauldrons, hilarious choices for dinner ware, seating and much more) an elephant gift exchange (there were some hilarious gifts, that’s for sure) and to wind down the evening everyone watched a movie.  In addition to the training and planning, we were also able to celebrate Johnathen’s 16th birthday and he was so appreciative that we decorated everything with Baby Shark (Baby Shark, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo…) as well as everyone’s birthday wishes (I think he just now got his hearing back from everyone’s boisterous singing).  To conclude, this weekend is important on so many different levels within our troop and we thank everyone that was able to pitch in wherever help was needed to make it successful, especially as this conference had more than 50 people this year!
