Another part of earning the Citizen in the Community merit badge, the scout must volunteer eight hours of their time within their community. For two hours, the troop teamed up with Keeping Pinellas Beautiful and the Green Peace Makers to cleanup St. Petersburg Beach. Between us all, we collected about 10 or 11 bags of trash, not including the multiple tires and drink buckets that would not fit in the bags that people left behind; which was astonishing to say the least. If you ever have spare time on your hands and enjoy our beaches, I suggest that you attend a cleanup to see how important it is to clean up after yourself and others who may not be as considerate as they should be. As Robert Baden-Powell said, “Leave this world better a little better than you found it”.
